A Fracking Primer

OPINION / COMMENTARY

little_Marcellus-shale_mapOdds are most people don't know why fracking has to be used in the US so much - there is simply no other way to supply natural gas (Ngas) at rate of the 25 trillion cubic feet per year (tcfy) at any price;imports and "conventional" supply only 17.6 tcfy these days. So if we wish to avoid fracking sourced Ngas, we need to use less Ngas. Tthat includes Ngas used to make electricity, which is where wind turbines could really come in handy. Odds are, that “do less fracking” will not be an unpopular message at the WNYEA meeting, regardless of "why".

And so, here is a quickie primer on Fracking in a Powerpoint format. Any questions?
