MODERN’S DEDICATION TO SUSTAINABILITY RECYCLING
Single Stream Recycling – Modern’s single stream recycling offers a broad menu of acceptable materials coupled with the convenience of placing all items in one container.
Construction & Demolition – With several WasteCap Accredited Professionals in Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling on staff, Modern is a fully committed partner for LEED, NAHB and other C & D recycling projects.
Tire Recycling – Recycling tires reduces risk of air and water pollution and preserves natural resources by creating recycled product substitutes for natural mulch and aggregate. Modern “walks the talk,” using its tire derived products internally as well as selling them for others to use.
TRANSPORTATION
Compressed Natural Gas Trucks – Switching to natural gas trucks is a more recent example of our commitment to the environment and Western NY community. Each vehicle switch we make reduces greenhouse gas emissions 25% compared to its diesel predecessor and reduces noise too.
GPS Technology – GPS technology helps us route our trucks efficiently to reduce wear and tear on the roads and vehicles as well as minimize energy used for transportation, keeping our carbon footprint smaller.
ENERGY
Decomposition of materials in a landfill produces methane, a powerful climate-changing gas. Modern captures this landfill gas, preventing escape into the atmosphere, and converts its energy into electricity and heat. The energy fully supports operation of H2Gro, our hydroponic greenhouse.
LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION
H2Gro Greenhouses use landfill gas energy to grow over 6 million pounds of vine-ripened tomatoes a year without pesticides or herbicides. The hydroponic system recycles water, further reducing natural resource use to produce local food eight months of the year.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT & EDUCATION
Our direct and in-kind donations have supported arts and entertainment, youth sports, healthcare, community safety and other charitable endeavors that help keep Western New York a place where people want to live.
