From 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, March 17, Audubon will offer a variety of ongoing activities as well as special programs where you can learn simple, easy ways to “green” your home, garden and car that will make a big difference to the planet and to your wallet.

With activities for all ages, ongoing throughout will be demonstration tables with information for everything from cleaning product alternatives and car maintenance, to increasing gas mileage, to making crafts with reusable and natural materials, planting food plants and native wildflowers, cycling, and easy ways to save energy in your home.

Stuck in the Suburbs? Escape to Reinstein

Just like the United Sates Postal Service, The Dr. Victor Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is fully operational in almost every imaginable weather condition.  Between sunrise and sunset, visitors can access the stunning nature trails by foot when it’s warm or wet outside, or by snowshoes and skis when snowflakes pile up on the ground.

Unlike the Postal Service however, The Reinstein Nature Preserve has been able to thrive during the 21st century thanks to technological and educational enhancements.  Often dubbed “The Woods”, the site’s current state of preservation can be traced back to the foresight of Dr. Reinstein, who in the late 1930s decided to purchase the land.  His actions saved it from the deforestation and subsequent suburban development that has come to define much of the surrounding areas in Depew.

Perspective

Perspective.  It is often what gives an excellent image the edge in a photo contest.  It is a way to solve a problem, bridge a gap, or accept a difference.  It gives rise to hindsight.  Or it simply gives you a different way to see the world.  Perspective is about seeing and understanding, it is about relationships and outlooks.

Perspective can be changed – by lying on the ground, standing on a ladder, imagining yourself in someone else’s shoes, or just by getting older.  From a frog’s perspective the world is much different than from a heron’s perspective.  The perspective of people standing right next to each other, looking at the same scene, can be different.  There is an element of beauty in that.
