The holidays are a time to spread warmth and cheer; time to spend with your family, friends and loved ones. It is also the time to let your creative juices flow. We’ve given you a couple of green gift ideas with our “Green it Yourself” blog series, turning teacups into candles, and making seed bombs. Now we want to give you some ideas of how to wrap up your finished products. To some people, half the fun of getting a gift is ripping off the paper and wearing the bow on their head. You don’t need to buy a new roll of wrapping paper to create this experience. Here are a couple of greener approaches to gift wrapping:

I have already lost track of the number of people who have complained about the overwhelming expense of the holiday season. I can’t blame them for their lamentations, so instead I propose a different approach: make it, don’t buy it!

GrowWNY has come up with a perfect holiday remedy that puts a new twist on Do It Yourself (DIY) projects. We want you to “Green It Yourself (GIY)” and tackle holiday gift giving inspired by sustainability. Over the next couple of weeks we will be publishing blogs that will give you some GIY projects.

Today is America Recycles Day, and what better way to celebrate than by acknowledging a local school's commitment to recycling. The Community Charter School received an award from the Buffalo Recycling Alliance for its new and improved recycling program that cuts waste down by 50 percent. The Buffalo Recycling Alliance wants this award to inspire others to think about their recycling habits and look to the Community Charter School as an example.

If you have ever committed to painting a room in your house, you know how much work it is. There are endless trips to the home improvement store, comparing paint swatches, fielding unwelcomed family opinions, taping the edges of the room, and laying down the plastic. Oh and you can’t forget the edging. However, in the end, it’s usually worth it when you step back and take in a new color. It can change the feeling and look of the room.
