Please join the WNY Sustainable Energy Association for the April installment of the Reitan Speaker Series - Everything You Wanted to Know About Geothermal Heating, But Were Afraid to Ask.

Jens Ponikau Geo designer for Buffalo Geothermal Heating (BGH) Buffalo Geothermal is a geothermal design and installment firm offering turnkey solutions in residential and commercial applications. Currently, BGH installs between 50-60 systems per year in the Buffalo and Western New York area. They include open and closed systems, and horizontal, vertical, and pond-loop systems.

A native of Germany, Mr. Ponikau designed and installed 120 geosystems abroad and brought this design knowledge to Western New York, where he helped found Buffalo Geothermal Heating in 2008. He has been teaching numerous seminars to architects and engineers on geothermal technologies, and also made public appearances an radio shows, schools and the home show to further educate the public.

Mr. Ponikau is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association accredited geothermal installer and a graduate of the University of Hamburg, Germany.

21st Century Park at the Outer Harbor: “The Greenway Connector”

Opportunity is knocking on Buffalo's door a second time.  In 1888, almost 125 years ago, Frederick Law Olmsted designed a recreational lakefront park as part of our Olmsted Park System.  When the city fathers favored an inland site Olmsted was asked to redesign the park which became “South Park”.  When it was moved inland, his creative water-related features were never implemented.

The Western New York Sustainable Energy Association (WNYSEA) is hosting the Reitan Sustainable Speaker Series in celebration of the United Nations Year of International Sustainable Energy for All.  The series will kick off next week with Terry Yonker, Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative, Western New York Energy Alliance member and WNYSEA Trustee.

Terry’s talk will include the science and the probable impacts of global warming on the climate of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem all within the context of a changing world climate. He will discuss impacts on energy production, shipping, pollution, habitat, economic development, and public health and explore options of collaboration to reduce the carbon footprint of the bi-national Great Lakes Region.
